What is our purpose of business or
what is the corporate purpose of RepairKochi?
I thought of concepts like USP or Unique Selling Proposition, Corporate Purpose etc. as mere words for a long time. In the glamorous world of the architecture industry, almost all architects are similar. We will get lots of referral business. While moving from small ones to huge ones, we will not get time to think about anything else. All that goes through our mind will be deadlines after deadlines. We just have to enjoy the comforts of the glamour world.
Once when I went to be part of a planting NGO, a young girl pointed her fingers at me making all my confidence to tumble like a house of cards: “No matter how many millions of trees we plant, nothing will make up for the sin of building concrete jungles by destroying trees.” The largest consumer of natural resources in the world is the construction industry. The holes in the ozone layer are more due to the emissions from a cement manufacturing company than the emissions from a car on the road.

Look at this renovated home. When we spend about 60 lakhs to build a new home like this, it consumes a lot of natural resources. But when we renovated this home as shown, Team RepairKochi could save 60 % of natural resources. The residue of the old building would have become a waste in nature which Team RepairKochi could reduce substantially through renovation. The corporate purpose of Team RepairKochi is to lead the construction industry to a circular economy. All the other things associated with this can be considered as a bonus. I’ll share some of those bonuses now.
The next matter is something that corporate architects, including me, forgets most of the time. If the government hadn’t built good engineering colleges and IITs using the tax amount, many of today’s architects and engineers will not exist. I studied in the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, also known as CET. 90% of students who studied with me were from underprivileged families. But we address corporate projects and upper middle-class homes only.
When qualified architects are inaccessible to ordinary people, they will be advised by the friends and family that loves them. But love is not the eligibility criteria for the right to advice, is it? They will ask the owners of a home like this, “You have enough money now. Then why are you staying in an old house? Why don’t you demolish this house and build a new one?” Listening to this loving advice, the ordinary person will build a new house like this.
Three things will happen because of this. The first thing is the money of a finically sound ordinary man which could have been a creative investment became a dead investment. The second and third points are what I explained previously related to nature. When I started addressing these three issues, I started loving my profession and I was lucky to be loved by my clients.
Team RepairKochi is sure about one thing – we cannot sell our skills and talents, but we can sell the happiness of our clients. We have been striving for it and we will continue to do so.
